Atlanta Braves Sign Big Piece Ryan Howard to Minor League Deal!

MLB reports that the Atlanta Braves have signed former Phillies’ 1B Ryan Howard to a contract!

The report states that Howard will report to Braves’ extended spring training in Kissamee then to AAA Gwinnett in Georgia.

Guess those $80k in doorknobs won’t pay for themselves! If you want to see the nicest house of any minor league player, you can see my article HERE! (Complete with video!)

Jesse Biddle to the Braves

MiLB is now reporting that Jesse Biddle has been claimed from waivers by the Atlanta Braves. Biddle was placed on the 60 day DL while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.

I consider myself lucky, I’ve gotten to know Jesse and his family over the years. Baseball Ross and I even saw Jesse play his very first professional game. (You can read about it HERE.

I was sad to see him traded from the Phillies and frankly, I miss seeing my friend around Spring Training. He always had a moment to talk to me. I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.

GCL Photos- Nieves, Ruf and Dykstra

It’s a scorcher here in Clearwater. Those of us brave enough to sit out in the heat and humidity were treated to a pair of major leaguers on rehab, Wil Nieves and Darren Ruf. We were also able to see Luke Dykstra, son of Lenny Dykstra play for the Braves.

Hard to “Hear” Jeff Francoeur Tricked Into Thinking Teammate Deaf

I was perusing my Facebook account today (Betsy Baseballe) and saw that “Jeff Francoeur” was trending. I clicked the link and was amused as to why…

Francoeur was recently signed to AAA El Paso Chihuahuas. It started as a off the cuff joke and ended up being a month-long prank. Teammates convinced Francoeur that pitcher Jorge Reyes was deaf. Reyes was able to play the part…for the entire month.  It’s HILARIOUS and to his credit, Francoeur took it well…The video the team made is fun. It’s a little over seven minutes, but it might just be the best seven minutes of your day. Click below to watch:

Jeff Francoeur…On Deaf Ears

ARM–Another Ruben Mistake?

As someone who had faithfully followed Phillies baseball for a decade and knowing some of the players eight years, you get attached to them, invested in their progress. You watch them progress and succeed and get oh so close to catching their dream.

Two years ago, I wrote about Derrick Mitchell and how excited we were that he had gotten a chance to play with the big team ( you can read that blog HERE) and how all had hoped that at the worst, he’d end up a September call up. That didn’t happen. It didn’t happen last year either. During the off season, Derrick signed with the Braves and guess what? After being in camp a few WEEKS (he reported to the minor league camp)they have given him a shot in the big game. He pinch-ran, then hit a sac-fly RBI in the seventh. Not too bad! A mistake by Amaro.

Seth Rosin, RHP, was with us last year. He was solid but the Phillies didn’t protect him and we lost him during the Rule 5 draft. He’s now on the 25-man roster with the Dodgers. Another Ruben Mistake.

Tuffy Gosewisch was a good catcher with a lot of promise, but apparently the Phillies didn’t think so as they traded him to the Diamondbacks for a half-used stick of pine tar. Gosewisch has joined Rosin in Australia and has also made the Diamondbacks 25-man roster. Another Ruben Mistake.

What do these three guys have in common? They weren’t given a look by the Phillies and have gone on to find success with other teams. More importantly, these are the ones we can think of just off the top of our heads.

How many times can the Phillies do this? I just keep thinking, ARM, Another Ruben Mistake. Maybe Amaro forgets that three strikes and you’re out. Mitchell-Strike One, Rosin-Strike Two, Gosewisch-Strike Three—you’re outta here…well we can wisch.
