Phillies Start of Spring Training Games with a Win Over the University of Tampa

It was a great day for baseball and the Phillies young guns made it even better with a win.

Baseball Ross and I were impressed with the play of Dylan Cozens, Roman Quinn and Jorge Alfaro. We put together a video of pictures and clips along with our thoughts on the game. You can watch the video HERE.

Preview of the Phillies First Spring Training Game VS University of Tampa

Yesterday, Spring Training was shortened by an afternoon golf outing that the Phillies were holding. Today, it has been raining off and on all day. So what to do? A preview of tomorrow’s game against the University of Tampa!

Baseball Ross and I put together a video of photos and commentary on the line up for tomorrow’s game.  You can see the video HERE.

Phillies Spring Training Day 7–February 20, 2017

It was another day of drills and batting practice. It was also a day of a little bit of levity.

Freddy Galvis
Freddy Galvis

During the pop-up drill, Freddy Galvis came from third base all the way in to the first base line, just in front of the plate…but when he got there, he missed the ball. Not to let him off easy, Luis Garcia who had “pitched” and was backing up Galvis, threw his glove to the ground before throwing his hands in the air and kicking his glove across the grass. He did it with the over-dramatic flair, all the while, he was pretending to be angry. It was hilarious! (There’s photos of this in the vlog for today.)

There’s a ton of pictures including Odubel Hererra, Mickey Moniak, Aaron Brown, Andres Blanco, Nick Pavetta, Alberto Tirado, Elniery Garcia, Cole Stobbe, Jorge Alfaro, Roman Quinn, Ben Lively, Jeremy Hellickson and Dylan Cozens. You can see the video HERE.

This is where spring training gets hard to blog about. The intra-squad games have yet to start and basically, you’re watching the same players do the same drills as the last few days. There were a few highlights, however.

The best thing was Odubel Hererra motioning for me to take a picture then giving me the thumbs up sign…as seen above.

Baseball Ross and I have pictures and video of today’s activities and you can watch it HERE.  If you like the video, be sure to click subscribe so you will be notified when we post new videos. We hope to post new video every day of spring training.

Phillies Spring Training Day 5

It was a cold day, that brought rain to shorten the day’s activities. Today was more drills and live batting practice.

You can watch video of the day’s activities on our YouTube Channel by clicking HERE.

Phillies Spring Training-Day 4

It started as a chilly day and warmed up as the players took the field. The first day of full team practice added the position players to the mix as well as some additional minor leaguers.

You can watch our video below to see players such as Mark Lieter, Jr, Aaron Altherr, Michael Mariot, Elniery Garcia, Freddy Galvis, Odubel Hererra, Brock Stassi, Tyler Viza, Caleb Eldridge, Roman Quinn, Miguel Nunez, Rhys Hoskins,  Alberto Tirado and Jeff Singer. To watch the video, click HERE.

It’s day 3 of spring training and the last day of only pitchers and catchers. Tomorrow position players report.

Baseball Ross and I put together a video outlining today’s activities. We have pictures and video of Brad Lidge, Elniery Garcia, Alberto Tirado, Jerad Eickhoff, Tommy Joseph, Roman Quinn, Drew Anderson, Pedro Beato, Mark Appel, Victor Arano, Aaron Nola, Joely Rodriguez and more. We even have a shot of batting practice where Rhys Hoskins took a ball deep into Frenchy’s Tiki Bar.  You can watch the video HERE.

How Baseball Ross and I Got Part of the Brighthouse Sign

Me and the G from Brighthouse Stadium
Me and the G from Brighthouse Stadium

Baseball Ross and I were in the right place at the right time. You can watch a video about our amazing experience HERE.

If you aren’t aware, the cable company that has the naming rights of the Phillies stadium, Brighthouse Field, was recently bought out and rebranded as Spectrum. So they needed to replace the name on the stadium.

So as we turned the corner we saw something we expected, there was a crew there removing the sign.

We struck up a conversation with the workers. I asked what they were going to do with the sign and they replied, “It’s going to the dump, you want it?”

I wanted to take it all but Ross and I live in a cottage, so that huge sign really wasn’t an option. (Or so I thought.) I resisted the urge and took only 2 “Gs” and an “s” for our real names. They still had the bolts attached, so Ross volunteered to take them back to the car so we didn’t carry them into the stadium. I went into watch batting practice. When we came out the sign was repaired and the workers were gone.

Later, Ross tells me, “I have something to tell you,” and he opens the trunk.

Trunk full of letters

I wondered what I would do with all those letters with the bolts sticking out of them. The smaller, wooden letters’ bolt screwed out of the wood easily, but the metal letters were another story. I found a local auto repair shop that thought it was a cool project and cut the bolts off and ground the stumps down for me. I then took them home and cleaned them up. Considering that they had been on a building and had weathered the harsh Florida sun and hurricanes, I think they look good.

I then went to work. I think the final product looks amazing. I plan on doing this to the rest of the big letters and have some ideas for the small ones as well. It’s backlit just as it was when it was hanging on the stadium the day before. I think it looks amazing and is a piece of Phillies history.

Day 2 of Phillies Spring Training 2017

The clouds started rolling in this morning but we were able to get a full day of spring training in before the rain came.

It was an eventful day. We saw the pitchers warming up then went to the stadium to watch batting practice. Then we returned to the Carpenter Complex in time to catch the catchers take BP then do pop-up drills.

Baseball Ross and I put together a rather extensive video of today’s activities, you can watch it HERE.

The best picture of the day is when Logan Moore ran into the fence right in front of me during pop-up practice. You can see it in the video above and of course, I keep shooting when he did. This is what I got:
