The Times, They are a Changin’

I’ve spent the last two and a half weeks watching baseball drills, scrimmages and games. As far as actual MLB games, I think I have one more left, I’ll be focusing more on the MiLB camp.

While there is only so much you can say about drills, I think the thing that impresses me most, the biggest change from previous seasons, is the intensity.

In previous years, the players took the fields at 10 then went in at noon for lunch. This year, they do not stop at noon, they go until one or even longer. Yesterday, the players were there until three-thirty, though tangent were given a chance to shower and eat lunch. Today, when we left at one-fifteen, some of the players were released to lunch and others were still going.

They also seem to keep it moving. They have timed intervals for each activity and when it’s up, an airhorn is sounded and each workgroup changes activities.

It just seems much more organized than prior years.

Will it make a difference? Only time will tell.
